Across the Buckeye State - from Cincinnati's river valleys to Cleveland's lakefront - Ohio BMV locations provide testing and licensing services for drivers at every stage of their journey.
Our directory helps you find your nearest BMV testing center, and features sample driving test routes to help build confidence for exam day. Check our Ohio BMV map, or explore the BMV directory to find routes and information.
The routes displayed on our site are sample test routes built specifically to match Ohio BMV examination standards. Each map follows the structure, timing, duration, and skill requirements typical of real driving tests administered throughout OH. You'll encounter residential zones, commercial corridors, and varying speed limits that reflect genuine test conditions... giving you realistic preparation for what to expect.
When you're ready to practice the actual routes driven during Ohio BMV examinations, we recommend the 'Driving Test Routes' app. They provide driver-confirmed, GPS-tracked routes complete with turn-by-turn guidance based on actual test data collected from all Ohio BMV locations.
Whether practicing with our sample routes or using the verified routes on the app, driving the same roads you'll face on test day will give you a huge advantage. Many Ohio drivers benefit from knowing common testing scenarios - navigating through school zones, handling four-way stops, merging onto highways, and parallel parking on city streets.
Preparation helps to reduce test-day anxiety and allows you to focus on showing-off your driving skills!
The Ohio BMV manages driver licensing statewide through a combination of deputy registrar locations and full-service centers. Whether you're applying for your first temporary instruction permit or maintaining your commercial license, Ohio's BMV system provides the services need to operate legally on state roadways.
New Driver Services: First-time drivers can complete knowledge testing, vision examinations, and receive temporary instruction permits (TIPIC).
License Renewals and Updates: OH licenses remain valid for four years and you can renew them online, by mail, or in person. If you need to change your address or replace a lost license... most BMV locations handle this.
Testing Services: Schedule your road skills test... with some locations also offer third-party testing through certified driving schools for added convenience (and potentially shorter wait times).
Commercial Credentials: CDL holders can apply for commercial learner's permits, take CDL knowledge tests, and schedule skills examinations.
State ID Cards: If you're a non-driver you can get state identification cards at any BMV location. Ohio also issues compliant IDs meeting federal REAL ID requirements.
